‘The Strangers: Chapter 1′ embarks on a journey to rekindle the goosebump-inducing nature of its predecessor within the home-invasion-thriller genre.
While stranded in a remote cabin, the protagonists become the prey of the franchise’s notorious masked antagonists.
The best part of the movie was the cinematography – it was great with thoughtful framing and lighting that accentuates and amplifies the sense of horror and fright. There were several scenes that looked hauntingly beautiful.
I also think the sound effects were excellent as it really built up the suspense and amplified the chills and fright within each scene. I recommend that you watch this in a theatre for this reason!
Chapter 1 re-grounds the franchise and primes the palette to possibly reveal who these masked strangers are… maybe in Chapter 2?
Overall, ‘The Strangers: Chapter 1’ offers decent entertainment for those looking for a fun mindless horror film.
