Jurassic World: Rebirth

I attended the NYC premiere of ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’ and it was a treat!

This film injects fresh energy into the franchise with Scarlett Johansson leading a high-stakes expedition to retrieve dinosaur DNA. Set five years after Dominion, it delivers intense action, sleek visuals, and a darker tone that reimagines the dino-saga for a new era. The action is relentless but smartly paced, with set pieces that range from tense jungle pursuits to a harrowing underwater sequence involving a mosasaur ambush.

Set five years after the events of Dominion, the world has begun adapting to the existence of dinosaurs but this story shifts focus from global chaos to a more grounded, personal survival tale. The dinosaurs feel more primal and dangerous than ever, with practical effects blended seamlessly into visceral set pieces. The tone is darker, leaning into sci-fi horror territory.

The cinematography captures both the haunting beauty of prehistoric creatures and the intense claustrophobia of being hunted by them. The dinosaurs are more terrifying and unpredictable than ever, presented with a mix of state-of-the-art practical effects and CGI that adds weight and realism to every encounter.

The film subtly explores bioethics, environmental disruption, and the human tendency to exploit what we don’t understand. Johansson’s character is haunted by a personal loss tied to a genetic experimentation thread that ties into the film’s deeper ethical questions about science and control. Through her character’s eyes, we’re forced to confront whether humanity should have resurrected these creatures in the first place and if survival now means erasing them again.

By leaning into suspense, character depth, and visual spectacle, the film marks a bold new direction for the franchise while still honoring its roots. I highly recommend it! 10/10
