I just saw ‘Caught Stealing’, Darren Aronofsky’s wild new crime thriller, and I have to say—it was a ride. The movie is gritty, fast, and chaotic.
Austin Butler plays Hank Thompson, a washed-up baseball player working as a bartender whose life spins out of control after he agrees to cat-sit for a neighbor. What seems like a small favor turns into a nonstop spiral of mobsters, dirty cops, and bad decisions. The story moves at such a breakneck pace that I felt almost as trapped and paranoid as Hank himself.
Butler completely won me over. He’s funny, vulnerable, and desperate all at once, and I actually believed every bad choice he made. Zoë Kravitz is fantastic too—sharp, unpredictable, and just the kind of character you’re never sure you can trust. Regina King and Bad Bunny both add their own energy, balancing menace with dark humor.
The cinematography really grabbed me. The way Aronofsky and the director of photography shoot New York makes the city feel alive—almost like a character in itself. Grimy streets, neon lights, and tight close-ups make the tension feel constant, while sweeping shots of the city give you brief moments to breathe. The rapid cuts and dynamic camera movements perfectly match Hank’s panic and confusion, and I found myself completely immersed in his chaotic world.
Overall, I really enjoyed it. It’s not an easy film—it’s violent, relentless, and stressful—but it’s also stylish, funny in twisted ways, and full of tension.
