‘Freakier Friday’ brings back the body-swap chaos for a new generation, while also leaning heavily on nostalgia for fans of the 2003 classic.
This time, the story expands the concept by involving not just a mother and daughter, but additional family members, which raises the stakes and the comedy. Jamie Lee Curtis is the clear standout. Her performance is energetic, hilarious, and gives the movie its heart. Lindsay Lohan makes a welcome return as well, and her chemistry with Curtis feels natural and warm. Seeing them back together is one of the film’s biggest strengths. The movie also plays to longtime fans with callbacks, Easter eggs, and even a revival of Lohan’s band Pink Slip. These touches give the film a fun, self-aware charm. On the downside, the story doesn’t break new ground.
Much of the humor feels recycled, and some gags are predictable. While the chaos is entertaining, it follows the same formula we’ve seen before.
Still, Freakier Friday succeeds as a feel-good sequel. It may not be groundbreaking, but it’s funny, heartfelt, and enjoyable for anyone who loved the original.
